Listen and talk. We all do it—talk about work with our co-workers, share thoughts and experiences, hash out meaning, and come to a common understanding. If that’s what people are doing anyway, let’s be part of workplace conversations, especially about business goals and culture.

We’ve mastered how to reach the mass employee audience with our internal media and campaigns, but employee attention has shifted to sources of personalized information. There’s just too much about their work that is changing too fast. Social media, paired with an inborn human need for support and meaning, have splintered and amplified the significance of workplace conversation. Is anyone paying attention to the corporate message anymore? Make it a New Year’s resolution to be sure they are. Renew employee communication excellence through intentional purpose, delivery and conversation.
